        Gamma Rho Chapter was chartered with 23 members on May 11, 1972, at the Sheraton in Cleveland, Ohio located at Hopkins Airport.  The official charter city of record is Shaker Heights, Ohio. The first President of the chapter was Cavassa Mitchell. In the fall of 1972, a building at 12960 Euclid Avenue in East Cleveland, Ohio was purchased by members of the chapter, and their first meeting was held on the first Saturday of September, 1972. One year later in September 1973, Gamma Rho Chapter opened the Social Cultural Learning Center for children ages 1-5 which operated until 2002 under the directorship of Soror Mildred Bell.

 

     On February of 1973, the first Krinon Club inducted 13 educators into Gamma Rho Chapter. Over the past 50 years, Gamma Rho Chapter has inducted nearly 300 members into its sisterhood. The chapter has been under the leadership of 15 different presidents, has co-hosted one Conclave, hosted three Regional Conferences, and one Youth Conference. Gamma Rho Chapter has also had Sorors hold offices at the Regional and National levels, including the Supreme Basileus, the late Betty Dixon, from 2009-2013.   Gamma Rho Chapter continues to serve in various capacities Nationally, in the Midwest Region, and locally in the Greater Cleveland area.
